Solar for newer homes.

Solar Panels on a New Build Home

Newer homes are often well suited to solar: modern roofs, modern consumer units and good insulation. But some new builds already have a small solar system fitted by the developer, and a new home's warranty and paperwork are worth checking before anything is added.

This page covers what to check when adding solar panels or a battery to a new build.

Check what is already fitted

Some developers fit a small number of panels as standard. If your home has them, find the installation paperwork and the inverter details. An existing system can often be extended, or a battery can be added through a retrofit, subject to a compatibility check.

New home warranties

New homes usually come with a structural warranty. Read its terms, and those of any developer guarantee, before roof work is done, and keep records of the installation. Your MCS certificate and installation paperwork form part of that record.

Roofs and access

Modern roofs are often tiled with interlocking concrete tiles, which are straightforward to fit to. Some new builds have tight access or shared driveways, which affects scaffolding. We check access at the survey.

Adding a battery

A battery can make good use of a smaller developer-fitted system by storing surplus that would otherwise be exported. Battery storage installed in a home currently qualifies for 0% VAT, including batteries added to existing solar.

How we work

At your free home survey we check the roof, the electrical installation and the planning position for your property before proposing a system.

Why homeowners choose Cozy Home Solutions

Cozy Home Solutions Ltd is an MCS certified installer of solar panels, battery storage and home EV chargers, based at Unit 2, Old Station Yard, Watlington Road, Cowley, Oxford, and working with homeowners across England and Wales. We are registered with NAPIT, HIES and EPVS, and we are a Hometree partner.

Every installation starts with a free home survey and a written quotation. When the work is finished, your system is commissioned and handed over with its MCS certificate, the DNO notification and the manufacturer warranties registered in your name. Battery cover runs to 10 years, and the installation itself is protected by an insurance-backed guarantee.

Frequently asked questions

Can I add solar panels to a new build?

Yes, in most cases. Check any existing system and your new home warranty terms first.

My new build already has solar. Can I add more?

Often yes. An existing system can sometimes be extended, or a battery added, subject to a compatibility check.

Will solar affect my new home warranty?

Read the warranty terms before roof work and keep the installation paperwork, including your MCS certificate.

Can I add a battery to developer-fitted solar?

Usually, subject to checking the inverter and consumer unit. A battery retrofit stores surplus generation for the evening.

Do new build roofs suit solar?

Modern tiled roofs are generally straightforward. We check orientation, shading and access at the survey.
