Two ways to put solar on a roof.

Solar Panels or Solar Tiles?

Solar tiles, sometimes called in-roof or integrated solar, replace part of the roof covering. Conventional solar panels sit on rails above the existing tiles or slates. Both generate electricity from sunlight, but they differ in appearance, installation and long-term practicality.

Cozy Home Solutions installs roof-mounted panels. This page explains the differences honestly.

Appearance

Solar tiles sit flush with the roof, which some homeowners prefer on a new roof or sensitive building. Roof-mounted panels sit slightly above the covering. All-black panels, such as the DMEGC 465W All Black we install, are far less prominent than older silver-framed designs.

Installation

Integrated systems are usually installed when a roof is being built or re-covered, because they replace part of the covering. Roof-mounted panels can be fitted to an existing sound roof without replacing the covering, which is why they suit most existing homes.

Repairs and replacement

Panels on rails can be removed individually for roof repairs or replacement. Integrated systems form part of the weatherproofing, so repairs need more care.

Which suits your home

For a sound existing roof, roof-mounted panels are usually the practical choice. If you are planning a new roof, it is worth discussing the options. We assess your roof at the survey and recommend what suits it.
